5 Road Trip Tips

Here are 5 road trip tips I have found help make my drive so much more fun… what tips have you found?

  • Drive in the morning
    • This probably depends on the person, but I started by driving somewhere in the afternoon. Arriving. Dinner, workout, swim, rest. Explore in the morning. Drive again. This was all fine until I realized that I started falling asleep every time I drove in the afternoon… I have had MUCH more success waking up and driving right away. Then you get there and explore.
  • Don’t make the first hour a big deal
    • I hop in the car and start driving without even thinking about it. No prep, no final stop, just go and once you realize you’re driving then I pull over for some gas and snacks. I can usually pop an hour off without even feeling like I’m driving a long distance.
  • Break it up
    • Momma’s advice is best when you don’t want to eat your carrots — just eat one. bite. at. a. time. Maybe all of them seem crazy, but can you take one bite? I was surprised how quickly my Dad and I covered over 10 hours of driving but we did it by driving a couple of hours and stopping at a museum, then a couple hours and lunch, etc.
  • Road trip buddies are the best
    • It is crazier how much time flies when you have someone to talk to. If someone can’t join you in person, you call call someone on the phone (hands-free devices please).
  • The clothing bar in the back
    • My dad got me for Christmas this bar that runs across your back seat like a closet bar… and then you hang your clothes up on it. Game-changer for me, personally, because I struggle a lot with the suitcase thing with a ton of wrinkly folded clothes that I lose them in there anyway. I keep the clothing to both of the sides so that I can still see clearly through my review mirror.
