I’m no expert, but here’s a few thoughts in the midst of my current adventure of weightlifting at the gym…
- Dance party
- Okay, we seriously underestimate the power of five minutes. Pick one song that you love, it’s probably 3-4 minutes long. NOTHING can get in the way of these 4 minutes. Trust me, nothing is going to happen in those four minutes that cannot wait 4 minutes. And this one song can change your mood for the entire day.
- Put that song on (the better the speaker the better), blast it as loud as you respectfully can, and DANCE! If you have kiddos, include them. They will love it.
- If you’re one of the people who doesn’t like to dance… start with jumping, and throwing your hands back and forth. Listen to the music. What does it make you want to do? Bounce? Nod your head? Pump your arm? Let go and FEEL IT!!…..
- Just do a set of ten. Or 100 of something
- 10 pushups. 10 jumping jacks. 10 toe touches. It only takes a few moments, but it can make all the difference (I’m preaching to myself here…)
- Walk
- If you’re a get-it-done kind of person, park that car farther away or is there any errand you can walk to? Sometimes I walk to the gas station on the corner to buy what I need instead of just going on a joy walk because I can make it farther on a mission than if I constantly have to wonder when to turn around…
- Shoot hoops or do another fun activity
- Lots of fun activities are active without you having to realize that you are “exercising…” soccer, basketball, dance, snowmobiling, horseback riding… whatever you like!
- Just get outside
- No matter what, I find being outside is wonderful and the more I am outside the less I sit. It just seems to go hand-in-hand.
- Stretch or do something active while watching a show or movie
- If you just feel like chilling out with some Netflix or Peacock (I’m currently watching through the Office it was on my Covid bucketlist), I’ve found I can stretch while watching it and my body feels good while I get a laugh too. This might be a great time to get those reps in too for the 10 or 100 of simple exercises!
What are your tips and advice? I would love to hear!
