I’m all about some classy nightlife, so I’m all about La Ronda.
What is La Ronda? It’s a street. One of the oldest in Quito.
I’m a romantic, but there is just something about the jambled stone pathways. Some call it old, I call it rustic.
During the day, it doesn’t seem like anything. At night (mainly on weekends,) La Ronda comes alive.
Bustling with people (suddenly you see a bunch of tourists) and the warm lights, the hearty music en vivo – live – smells and street performers and huge empanadas.
What you gotta do in La Ronda:
- Try some morocho – a thick, creamy drink
- Try an empanada de viento – “Wind empanada” – filled with cheese and coated in sugar, these empanadas are nearly the size of the table. Start with one per table and you can always order more. They are pretty greasy!
- Do some live salsa dancing – people will probably ask you to dance, don’t be weirded out by this unless you get weird vibes! You can politely decline, but if you feel up for it give it a go for a song!
- Walk the street
- I love the pizza spot – there’s a pizza spot
- See the Panecillo at night
This is an empanada de viento. As you can see, it is the size of the table.
Mmmm I can just smell the melted cheese, fresh bread, sugar everywhere…
Enjoying an empanada de viento at a cute salsa-dancing joint at La Ronda with a friend.
