I am way too busy.
My creativity explodes when I have a whole day by myself in my home (my little creative getaway.) The juices barely even start rolling until I’m four hours in to just hanging. I will write for hours, dance, play the piano, rap (eh-em), mix music.
But if I am go-go-go, there is not much time for this.
It’s a balance because living my life is also important, that is what fuels the fire for me to write about. But if I don’t have some downtime, extended unstructured downtime, the butterfly sleeps.
Mondays are my favorite new day. No commitments (though I do dance at the end of the day with some friends, hopefully this isn’t breaking my own rule.)
Listen more
I’ve opened up my mind to new podcasts (I’m really enjoying Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast.) I’ve had more time to reflect, to soak in new ideas, to realize more things about myself.
Creativity blooms
When I am rushing off to work in an hour, the songwriting doesn’t seem to flourish. It’s when I sit down, have nowhere to be, and can really get in and process what is happening in my heart.
More time to explore
Which is also why I think I’ve been enjoying cooking, no pressure, just time to explore, learn grow and make mistakes.
What have you learned from having more downtime?
