Where you (should) be fine to eat greens in Quito, Ecuador

I accept no liability for this article or anything on this website.

Some of my friends would tell you anywhere. Some would tell you nowhere.

I tell you… this is my list.

MadMex – walking on Naciones Unidos in CCNU mall before you hit the Stadium or Quicentro. I have eaten the veggies there countless times and never gotten sick.

GoGreen – I have eaten their salads multiple times and have been fine.

Washing your own veggies – at home, you can wash your own veggies using Kilol, letting them soak, and then drying them. This is a good way to make sure they are fine, and I think it uses some sort of concentrated Vitamin C solution or something fairly natural.

Beware of the fancy restaurants that you haven’t heard a good review. One time my host family took me to this beautiful fancy restaurant in Baños, which is a vacation city. There was a salad on my plate, it seemed fine, I ate it… and the rest is history.

I don’t think I ate anything for days besides sipping on a Pedialite. Maybe it was the chorizo (sausage… there is so much mystery meat in Ecuador)… but looking back I blame it on the greens. I broke one of my trusty rules of thumb (no salad greens except at proven restaurants) and remembered why I have my rules.
